To beat Talos, use the arena platforms as cover from fire, destroy every blue battery when they appear to stagger him, and stand outside the glowing blast rings around his mines. After each phase, treat the route to the next floor as part of the fight: losing health to the transition traps makes the next exchange harder.
Talos is the mechanical boss associated with The Builder in the Clock Tower. Defeating him grants Smash, which breaks obstacles marked with golden cracks. The precise room label and complete access route are not settled here, so the instructions below begin at the arena rather than give a potentially misleading turn-by-turn entrance route.
Learn the multilevel arena

Talos hangs from chains inside a tall chamber. Platforms sit to his sides, and whip anchors provide routes between positions. His size lets him threaten a large part of the screen with a single attack. The question is often which level will be safe, rather than whether a last-second dodge can cross an entire hazard.
Before committing to a long attack, identify the nearest platform and anchor. A safe opening is more useful when you already know how you will leave it. Staying next to his body through the start of another animation invites a heavy punch.
Favor a short attack string while learning the room. A faster weapon can make it easier to stop attacking and reposition. Charged attacks need a longer clear recovery; do not begin one merely because Rose has reached the boss.
Destroy the blue batteries
Talos sometimes scatters blue-glowing batteries into the arena. Destroy all of them to trigger a brief stagger, then use the opening to strike his glowing core.
- Notice the batteries as they enter the room.
- Move between the platforms and break each battery.
- Once the stagger begins, close the remaining distance and attack.
- Leave room to escape the heavy punch when Talos recovers.

The stagger is a temporary opening. Extending your combo beyond it can turn the battery mechanic's reward into another hit taken. You do not need an unverified damage threshold to use the mechanic: the visible stagger tells you when the opening has started.
Use cover against both fire patterns
Talos fires burning projectiles around himself in a rotating spread. Platforms block these projectiles, so move behind cover and wait for the full volley to pass. Trying to jump between every shot is less dependable than using the room's protection.
Watch the direction of the spread as you move. A safe position must put a platform between Rose and the incoming fire, rather than simply place her on any available ledge.
A separate curtain of descending flames covers much of the arena. For that attack, look for shelter beneath the platforms and position Rose early. Wait until the flames have completely cleared before going back to the core. Leaving cover at the first apparent gap can expose her to the remainder of the pattern.
Step outside every mine's blast ring
Yellow-glowing mines appear in groups and detonate after a short delay. Thin luminous circles around them indicate the area each explosion will reach.

Choose a position outside all the circles, not just the circle nearest Rose. Overlapping blast areas can make a seemingly open space unsafe. Once you have a safe spot, remain there until the detonations finish and then resume your approach.
Do not confuse the yellow mines with the blue batteries. The batteries are a target to break for an opening; the mines are an area-control attack whose marked explosions you must avoid.
Respect the punches after a damage window
Talos's mechanical arms punish extended attacks at close range. When an arm begins preparing a heavy blow, stop attacking and move away from the threatened area. The side platforms and whip anchors give Rose alternatives to simply retreating along one floor.
The recovery after the battery stagger deserves particular attention. Talos can retaliate with a heavy punch as he recovers, so plan your exit before the stagger ends. A few safe hits preserve more progress than a longer combo followed by a large health loss.
Survive the transitions between phases
The fight has three phases separated by routes through traps. Talos moves to another floor after a substantial portion of his health is removed, and Rose must follow before combat resumes.
Pause to read the moving blocks and narrow crossings. The obstacle section is not an automatic reward break, and rushing to catch the boss can consume the health you saved during the previous phase.
The later phases reuse the established attacks with faster execution or longer coverage. Expect less time to leave an attacking position and more patience before stepping out of fire cover. You should adjust the length of your openings rather than wait for an entirely unrelated moveset.
Use Smash after victory
Winning grants The Builder's power, including Fist of Talos and Smash. Fist of Talos summons a large fist attack, while Smash gives Rose a downward airborne strike that can break appropriately marked obstacles.
For exploration, the important visual cue is the golden cracking on a breakable block. Return to one of those blocked routes after the fight and use Smash rather than assuming it needs another weapon or a hidden key. Check the control prompt for your platform instead of treating one controller's button label as universal.
This is a progression reward, not proof that every remaining map barrier can now be opened. Other routes still depend on later traversal abilities.
