How to Get Double Jump

Quick Answer

Reach Notre-Dame through the painting route and defeat the later Death encounter. Continue until the Double Jump tutorial confirms Rose’s second airborne jump.

To get Double Jump, reach Notre-Dame through the painting route and defeat Death. Continue the sequence around the Choir until the Double Jump tutorial appears. The ability lets Rose jump a second time while airborne; on the shown PlayStation controls, press Cross again in midair.

This is a later movement unlock. An unreachable ledge in the opening streets does not mean you missed a Double Jump item nearby. Mark it and return after progressing through the castle.

Prepare the route to Notre-Dame

You need the Artist's Arcana and Brauner's Paintbrush to enter the relevant painting. Smash is needed for the Artist route, while the Paintbrush comes from the Library progression after the Occultist. Gather those prerequisites before repeatedly inspecting the painting.

PrerequisiteWhere the progression leadsWhy it matters
SmashBuilder route in the Clock TowerOpens the golden-cracked obstacle associated with the Artist route
Artist ArcanaMain Hall's painting investigationSupplies the power needed for the painting interaction
Brauner's PaintbrushLibrary and Occultist progressionCompletes the requirement to open the painting route

The early street abilities are not substitutes for those requirements. If you are still investigating the first guardians or entering the Catacombs for the first time, continue the available story route before looking for the final traversal unlock.

Open the painting route

Return to the Main Hall and the Gallery of Eternal Night. With the Artist progression complete and the Paintbrush obtained, equip the Masterpiece Arcana and inspect the Notre-Dame painting.

The painting route requires the Artist progression and Paintbrush.

That interaction opens Notre-Dame. It is not a jump you can force by changing weapons or repeatedly grappling at a wall. If the painting does not provide access, check the Arcana and key item prerequisites first.

Progress through Notre-Dame to Death

Inside Notre-Dame, follow the musical-clue investigation connected to the Giant Organ in the Great Organ Room. The musical patterns clear the obstruction to the encounter. This page does not supply an unverified organ-note sequence: use the clues found in the area rather than a guessed combination.

Continue the cathedral progression through the Death encounter.

Defeat Death and continue the following dialogue and movement tutorial. The unlock is tied to that progression, not a separate collectible chest hidden elsewhere in the cathedral.

Follow the post-fight sequence to the Choir movement lesson before returning to earlier regions.

Perform the second jump

  1. Start a normal jump from solid ground.
  2. While Rose is airborne, press the jump button again.
  3. Use the added height to land on the higher ledge introduced by the tutorial.

On the shown PlayStation layout, jump is Cross. Use your current control mapping on other platforms. The defining input is a second press while airborne, not holding the original jump indefinitely.

Double Jump adds height; it is separate from the sideways dash.

Double Jump and wall jumping remain different actions. A wall jump needs a wall to push from; Double Jump adds an aerial jump without that wall. Aerial Rush also remains separate: it moves Rose sideways instead of supplying the same upward boost.

Confirm the unlock before leaving

Watch for the Double Jump instruction and test the second press over the tutorial's gap. If you have defeated Death but are still unsure whether the action is available, continue the nearby dialogue and tutorial sequence rather than leaving immediately to search the whole map.

You do not need to equip a whip-family weapon to use the second jump. It is part of Rose's movement progression rather than a property of a particular melee weapon.

Return to the right blocked routes

Look for notes you made about high ledges or a platform just beyond the height of the first jump. Those are the most natural places to test the new ability. A route blocked by a golden-cracked floor or a painting requirement still needs its own interaction, so Double Jump does not solve every remaining mark.

When a return visit still fails, check the whole obstacle: height, horizontal distance, anchors, and hazards. You may need to combine the second jump with another action rather than use it alone. Preserve a clear route back to a Mirror of Life before attempting a long cleanup loop.

Compare the early encounter described in Death: First Encounter with this later unlock, and use Map Locations and Route Order for the surrounding route order.
